COMMON MISTAKES IN ENGLISH


1) Afraid of, not from.
Do not say= the girl is afraid from the dog.
Say= the girl is afraid of the dog.

2) Angry with, not against.
Do not say= the teacher was angry against him
Say= the teacher was angry with him.

3) Anxious about, not for.
Do not say= they are anxious for his health.
Say= they are anxious about his health.

4) Benefit by, not from.
Do not say= she has benefit from the change.
Say= she has benefit by the change.

5) Careful of, not for.
Do not say= he is very careful for his health.
Say= he is very careful of his health.

6) Come or go by train, etc., not with the train, etc.
Do not say= he come with the train yesterday.
Say= he come by train yesterday.

7) Complain of, not for.
Do not say= many people complain for the heat.
Say= many people complain of the heat.

8) Depend on or upon, not from.
Do not say= it depends from himself.
Say= it depends on or (upon) himself.

9) Different from, not than.
Do not say= my book is different than yours.
Say= my book is different from yours.

10) Divide into parts, not in parts.
Do not say= I divide the cake in four parts.
Say= I divide the cake into four parts.

11) Spend on, not for.
Do not say= I spend a lot of time for my stamps.
Say= I spend a lot of time on my stamps.

12) Succeed in, not at.
Do not say= I hope he will succeed at his work.
Say= I hope he will succeed in his work.

13) Surprised at, not far.
Do not say= we were surprised for his failure.
Say= we were surprised at his failure.

14) Take by, not from.
Do not say, he took his brother from the hand.
Say= he took his brother by the hand.

15) Write in ink, not with ink.
Do not say= I have written the letter with ink.
Say= I have written the letter in ink.

16) Found of + ing.
Do not say= she is always found to talk.
Say= she is always found of talking.

17) Busy+ ing.
Do not say= he was busy to prepare his lesson.
Say= he was busy preparing his lesson.

18) Look forward to+ ing.
Do not say= I look forward to see him soon.
Say=I look forward to seeing him soon.
